Earl Willows tells the story of The Seven Stars

A young lady was alone with her older sister, her brothers had gone hunting. The older lady told her younger sister to go hunt for birds. She did not know that her older sister was planning on killing her younger siblings. The younger sister became suspicious of her older sister's conduct and spied on her older sister. She saw her talking to an elk and a feather. She said, "If they hit this plume then they will be able to kill me."

The younger girl met up with her brothers and warned them of the impending danger that the older sister was planning. So they decided to escape, they ran away. When they did not return, the older sister went to look for them. When she (the older sister) caught up to them, they looked back and saw her close behind. They decided to travel downhill. The younger sister told them to close their eyes. The girl shot an arrow ahead of them. When they opened their eyes, they were magically at the site where the arrow landed, and they did this four times and were well away from their older sister.

Then the young girl and her brothers climbed a tree. The young girl told her brothers to try and sit at the highest branch. The older sister finally reached the tree and saw her siblings. She scolded her brother Rawman for running away from her. The brother that sat at the lowest part of the tree was shooting arrows at her, but kept missing. A small bird was flying around the mean sister, pestering her and trying to distract her. She was able to knock her brothers down, one by one. The young sister finally turned around and started shooting at the plume, but missed on several shots. She kept sliding lower to get closer to her sister. The bird was telling her to shoot the plume. Finally she hit the plume and her sister fell down dead.

They split her chest and took out her heart, and cut it up. When it dried, she (the younger sister) made a smudge to burn to help revive her brothers. They decided to make a plan of what they were going to be. The older boy said that they were going to be seven chiefs. But the girl declined saying, "People will wipe us out." Another wanted to be elk, but the girl declined, commenting that people will be killing them. Another boy wanted to be a wolf. The girl replied, "They will trap you." Another wanted to be a tree. The girl said, "Children will climb us and elk will rub against us, finally we will be old." Another wanted to be a huge lake. The girl said, "They will pollute us, urinate in the water, elk will drink us and finally we will dry up." One wanted to be a rock, and just sit there, but the girl said, "Women will dust off their robes on us, children will climb up our body, they will chip away at us, and use us to clean their buckskin." Finally the boys asked the girl why she was refusing and asked what she wanted. She replied, "We will sit the way we are, but we are going into the heavens, where people can see us forever in the night skies and tell stories about us."
